About Mark

Educated in Zimbabwe and England, Mark Hawkins qualified in 1988 and joined Tallents in 1989. He is now a partner at the Mansfield office.

Since qualifying, Mark has developed three main areas of expertise, all largely revolving around the Magistrates and County Courts, family law and children law.

Children law

Mark has been a member of the Law Society’s Children panel since 1996. Mark also has extensive experience in divorce matters and related financial and contact disputes.

He understands that dealing with and agreeing care issues regarding children with your former partner when your relationship has broken down can be extremely difficult and emotional, but it’s vital that someone has the children’s best interests at heart – that’s where he can help you and your children. Mark will help you consider important custody issues, such as: working out which parent is best placed to continue caring for the children, what care arrangements will be most convenient for the children and how this transition can be handled to provide the most stability for the children involved. He  can advise and provide representation on child custody, parenting plans, care proceedings, child arrangement orders (previously Contact and Residence), child maintenance, child abduction in the UK, adoption law and grandparent rights.

As a member of the Law Society’s Children panel, Mark will focus on supporting and protecting the legal rights of children, including:

  • Working out custody arrangements for children following family relationship breakdowns
  • Advising on Parental Responsibility Agreements
  • Advising if children’s services / social services have become involved with your family
  • Child protection, safety and wealfare and what to do when you think a child is at risk

Criminal law

Mark has many years experience in Criminal Law and dealing with the criminal courts, from minor road traffic accidents to serious cases requiring disposal at the Crown Courts. He regularly contests cases in the Magistrates and County Court and has appeared in the High Court. He has been a Court Duty Solicitor since 1990 and the Mansfield office is an accredited provider of criminal defence services.

Vili is a solicitor working within the Commercial department at Tallents office in Mansfield, specialising in both residential and commercial property transactions.

Vili qualified as a solicitor in 2008 and joined Tallents Solicitors in Mansfield in April 2014, bringing a wealth of property experience with her. Vili was welcomed into the partnership in May 2016.
