Andy Stout, a family law solicitor at Tallents Solicitors explains that he is supporting this year’s Good Divorce Week to help raise awareness of ways to reduce conflict in family separation.

Starting 30 November 2020, Good Divorce Week is organised by Resolution, a community of more than 6,500 family justice professionals, of which Andy is a member.

Andy says:

Dealing with separation and divorce is difficult. Emotions are high and even if two people both agree to separate, the changes can be so stressful that conflict and confrontation can seem inevitable. However, this doesn’t need to be the case.

At Tallents Solicitors, we want to demonstrate the benefits of early professional advice which can help prevent unnecessary and damaging conflict when a couple make the painful decision to divorce – particularly where children are involved.

There is no silver bullet approach to divorce as every family and relationship is different. However, I believe that professional legal advice delivered early in the proceedings can help people think through their options and decide which process or combination of processes would be most suitable for them in their personal circumstances.

As a member of Resolution, legal professionals like Andy commit to a Code of Practice which promotes a constructive approach to family issues that considers the needs of the whole family and keeps the best interests of any children involved at the heart of proceedings.

He continues:

Our commitment to the Code means that we as solicitors and legal professionals believe the process of separating, sorting out finances and making arrangements for children can be done in a way that minimises conflict and promotes amicable agreements.

We can help explain all the options open to separating couples, including alternatives to court where they are appropriate, such as mediation and arbitration. This will give separating couples the confidence and knowledge to make the best decisions for them and their family.
