Employers in Newark and Southwell! Do you know how much you should pay your employees? Do you employ anyone on the National Minimum Wage?

Increases in National Minimum Wage

From 1st October, the following new hourly rates will apply:

£6.50 p.h. – Standard (adult) rate (workers aged 21+)
£5.13 p.h. – Development rate (workers aged between 18 – 20)
£3.79 p.h. – Young workers rate (workers aged under 18 but above the compulsory school age who are not apprentices)
£2.73 p.h. – Apprentice rate (workers aged under 19 or over 19’s in the first year of apprenticeship)

You must write to all your employees who are on the national minimum wage and inform them of the new applicable rate. Don’t forget to also keep a copy of the letter with their employment contract on their personnel file.
