Rosie May Storrie - Rosie May Foundation

Rosie May Storrie

Over the past twelve years, the Rosie May Foundation has developed from a family-run charity to an international charity with a strategy to help children in crisis, especially girls.

Rosie May Storrie was only 10 years old when she was tragically murdered at Christmas in December 2008. The following year, her family decided to escape the horrific recollections of the year before and instead spend their Christmas in Sri Lanka, planting a palm tree in Rosie May’s memory on Christmas Day.

But the next day, yet more tragedy struck when the family was caught up in the Boxing Day tsunami which eventually claimed over 230,000 lives. Miraculously, the Storries and the little palm tree they had planted in Rosie May’s memory survived, but they saw first hand the devastation the tsunami had wrought and the families it tore apart.

Despite these shocking events, their personal tragedies gave the Storrie family the determination to do something extraordinary; to turn tragedy into hope and create a living legacy to their beautiful daughter.

The Rosie May Foundation’s mission is to give children in crisis the right to a future, one that Rosie May had tragically been denied forever.  Their very first project, the Rosie May Home for girls, was opened for children who had lost parents in the tsunami in Sri Lanka.

Another initiative by the Foundation involves training Sri Lankan ladies to drive Tuk Tuks in Galle and support them to run their own businesses. The bright pink Think Pink Sri Lanka Tuk Tuks make women drivers visible and provide safe journeys for women and girls to work and school.
