250 Years – a year of celebrations
2024 sees Tallents Solicitors celebrating an incredible 250 years in business as one of the oldest law firms in the UK.
The present law firm of Tallents Solicitors can trace its roots back to Tallents & Co, which was founded by Mr Philip Tallents of Newark on Trent, who was admitted as a solicitor in 1774. Today the firm has three offices in Newark, Southwell and Mansfield.
The firm has always been deeply rooted in the communities they serve and as part of our 250th Anniversary Year, we are honouring these values by giving back to our communities throughout the year.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, our staff will be taking part in a range of activities from bake sales, fundraising and volunteering, all with the aim of helping our local communities, residents and charities.
Giving back to our communities
Each office has chosen different charities to support:
- Newark – Beaumond House, Newark Emmaus Trust
- Southwell – Reach Learning Disability, Rosie May Foundation
- Mansfield – NIDAS, SHE UK, Brunts Charity

Another great fundraising effort by our Mansfield office – this time they celebrated “Wear It Green Day’ in support of Mental Health awareness.
As part of our 250 Anniversary celebrations, Tallents Solicitors staff, Senior Partner Alistair Millar, Partner Vili Chung and our Practice Manager Helen Hopkins, donned their wellies and gardening gloves to help out at Reach Learning Disability’s Flower Pod and clear some pesky weeds for the clients.
Staff from Tallents Solicitors in Mansfield grabbed their paintbrushes to help out at SHE UK with some decorating. Partner Mat Derbyshire took the lead, although we’re sure the charity was happy he wasn’t channelling his inner Bob Ross on the day!
